The Missouri River Matters and Degradation Needs to be Stopped

MOARC supports the efforts of the Mid-America Regional Council and the many project stakeholders to stop the bed degradation in the Kansas City reach of the Missouri River.  The current request is shown below:  

MISSOURI RIVER DEGRADATION - FY16 $300,000 General Investigations

STATUS

Study began in 2011 with rescoping for SMART planning and 3x3 objectives in November 2012.

Array of viable solutions have been identified to study in 2015 and complete the study.

Design of solution planned in FY16.

18 regional stakeholders cooperatively serve as Non-Federal Sponsor.

BENEFIT OF PROJECT

Determination of cause and correction of river bed degradation will correct utility intake structure difficulties and bridge pier foundation exposure due to low water from bed degradation and will protect the integrity of Kansas Citys Levee System and BSNP preventing catastrophic failures.
