Capital of Kansas - Levee Protected

Many communities across the Midwest are levee protected, and the Topeka, KS levee is one that needs, and with a benefit cost ratio of 15 to 1 deserves, some attention.  The current MOARC request is shown below:

TOPEKA LEVEE, Kansas – FY16 $4,500,000 Construction New Start

STATUS

FY15 $2.2M would begin construction continued with FY16 $4.5M.

• $75,000 will complete design.

• $26.7M construction authorization received in WRRDA 2014.

• Improvements needed on the 40 mile system to provide authorized level of protection.

• Benefit – Cost Ratio of 15:1 current economic rate.

BENEFIT OF PROJECT

Protection of 6,500 residences, 800 commercial and industrial structures with investment important public utility infrastructure, and regional air and rail transportation facilities valued at nearly $3 billion.
